About Dr. Tran Cao, MD
Tran Cao, MD is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with advanced training in Medical Dermatology. Her path into medicine has been shaped by a deep commitment to health equity and culturally competent dermatologic care.
Dr. Cao earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Houston and her medical degree from St. George’s University. She completed her Family Medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She then completed a Dermatology Fellowship for the Underserved at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, receiving advanced clinical training in diagnosing and managing skin conditions. During this time, she also served as faculty at community clinics, including Haven for Hope and Alpha Home, providing care to underserved populations.
Dr. Cao has practiced dermatology for the past two years and is passionate about improving outcomes for patients with chronic skin conditions, especially those with limited access to care. Her patient care philosophy focuses on listening closely, educating thoroughly, and developing personalized, sustainable treatment plans.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cao is an active researcher and has presented at national and regional conferences. She has authored peer-reviewed publications on health disparities, medical education, and quality improvement, with a focus on addressing gaps in care.
She has received numerous awards throughout her training, including the M. Lamar Ross Award for Clinical Excellence, the Community Medicine Professionalism Award, and recognition for interprofessional collaboration and research excellence.
Fluent in English and conversational in Vietnamese and Spanish, Dr. Cao completed a Medical Spanish Track and an immersion program in Ecuador during residency. She is committed to advancing her language skills to better serve diverse communities.
Dr. Cao enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She looks forward to continuing to serve the community with excellent and personalized dermatological care.
